When street art meets communities
Posted on January 6, 2009 by Julius | Share |Albus Cavus is a non profit organization based in New Jersey and aiming at making art a community activity by negotiating walls with authorities in order to provide “canvases” to artists and local inhabitants. In a sense, their concept is quite similar to what Tarantino asbl organized at the “De Wand” tram station (Brussels).
Here are some of the projects Albus Cavus worked on in 2008:
Concrete Alchemy tour

The Concrete Alchemy tour (May 08) gathered fifteen artists who traveled from New York to Washington DC presenting their work through large scale murals and gallery shows. The tour was a collaborative work of Cern, Chor Boogie, Col, Crol, Demer, Eric Kennedy, Kasso, Mike Ciccotello, Mr. Maxx Moses, Plan, Rain, Ricardo Barros, Veng, Vyal and Werc.

Chor Boogie in Australia

In August, Chor Boogie participated in the International Stencil Festival in Melbourne. During his Australian trip co-sponsored by Albus Cavus, he also presented his work in Federation Square (Melboune) and Mays Lane Project (Sydney) and was featured in a number of gallery shows.
Burning Man festival (Nevada)


As part of a 12 people crew from around the world, Peter K and Pose2 of Albus Cavus participated in the creation of Myk Henry’s “Bummer” sculpture. The piece was built and exhibited in the desert as a part of Burning Man festival (Nevada).
Raritan River art walk

Raritan River art walk is the only space in New Jersey that has been transformed from an abandoned bike path to an outdoor gallery. Every year in September, hundreds of artists participate in this weekend-long event.

Public art in Dubai

In October, Pose 2, Chor Boogie and Peter K visited the United Arab Emirates and created three public art projects promoting community engagement and artistic creativity of the local residents.

Columbia Heighs

Art by Decoy, Gaia and Con.
In order to demonstrate the impact of art on street environment, artists from Washington DC area and New Jersey covered the fence of a construction site in Columbia Heighs.
