Guest of the Week – Grazzhoppa

Grazzhoppa is one of the key figures of the Belgian Hip Hop scene. DJ, producer and turntablist since 84, his biography is just incredible: from being a member of Rhyme Cut Core in the late 80’s to founding the Grazzhoppa’s DJs Bigband, Thee Insekt collaborated with Blade (UK), MF Doom (US), De Puta Madre (BE) and many more.

With more than 100 releases in 25 years, it’s almost impossible to present an exhaustive Grazzhoppa discography. But the “Project Grow” comic book, Disco Ducks “Breakin Golden Eggs” and of course the legendary After Hours mixtapes were eye opener for a whole generation.

Next to the strictly Hip Hop side of his early days, what really stands out in Grazzhoppa’s career are his crossover collaborations with artists such as Anne-Theresa De Keersmaker (contemporary dance – BE), Aka Moon (jazz – BE) and Brazzaville (funk/jazz – BE). In the same vein, Grazz founded in 2003 the DJ Bigband which now features 11 dj’s, two vocalists plus a horn section and they are currently touring with their latest show “Around the World in 80 beats”.
