rHil "Rhytmic Equations"
My Brother, my man and laid back collaborator since day one under the name "rHil" is back with a free jazz set.
If you like that kind of vibe, be sure to check the always great On-Point blog as they featured "Space is the Place" as their "long play for a lazy sunday" last week.
rHil's playlist and liner notes
I gathered a bunch of peaceful and spiritual songs. It's jazz all the way free and slow.
I wanted to put a few song with instrument that you don't get the chance to hear really often such as rocksichord or even the harpsichord plus lots of percussions.
Sun Ra - Moonship journey (Inner City, 1976)
Ra plays the roksichord on this one. Crazy sound!
Sun Ra - The all of everything (Saturn, 1970)
Andy Bey - Hibiscus (Atlantic, 1974)
Andy Bey worked with the greatest such as Gary Bartz and Horace Silver.
This track features sort of jazz funk ensemble with spiritual delivery by Andy himself.
Cecil mc Bee - Compassion (Enja, 1977)
Huge bass line at the beginning of the song. Nice!
Leon Thomas - Echoes (Flying Dutchman, 1969)
Leon Thomas plays percussion. He has also nice way of using his voice as an instrument.
Lonnie Liston Smith - Astral traveling (Flying Dutchman, 1973)
From his first album as a leader. LLS says about his music "It makes you feel at ease, and be yourself".
This kind of very peaceful music is very hard to find these days.
Cecil mc Bee - Voice of the 7th angel (Strata East, 1974)
The lady's voice adds a nice psychedelic touch to the song.
Grachan Moncur - Tiny temper (aActuel, 1969)
This quartet (trombone, bass, drums and piano) gathered initially to freestyle then decided to record one of the sessions.
Baroque Jazz Trio - Zoma (1970)
Track Reissued by "l'arome productions".
BJT is a french trio (drums, bass, harpsichord).
Art Ensemble of Chicago - Charlie M (1986)
Another great bass line towards the end of the song.
Yusef Lateef - Livingston Playground (Altlantic, 1969)
Featuring Bernard Purdie on drums.
Weldon Irvine - Here's where i came in (BMG 1976)
Weldon Irvine is a true genius. Be sure to check his other albums: Cosmic Vortex, Spirit Man, The Sisters,...
Definitely one of my favorite!
Sun Ra - Space is the place (live at Ann Arbor blues and jazz festival, 1972)
Really nice drums on this one.
