Long Arm’s Strange & Wonderful World
Posted on Nov 1, 2011 by Eugene Wisotow | Share |Long Arm took up music when he was a kid. In music school he studied how to play piano. Impressed by a DJ’s perfomance that he saw on TV. Long Arm devoted all his free time to listening to records and playing with turntables. He then spent his university years writing his own tracks, playing in various bands and participating in different projects. Long Arm released two albums on Project:Mooncircle and was featured on various compilations.
Enjoy this exclusive mix while reading the following interview:
LDBK: Tell us about yourself
Long Arm: My name is Georgy. I live in Saint-Petersburg.
LDBK: Where did you grow up?
Long Arm: I born in Orenburg. And I lived there most life.
LDBK: What or who influenced your musical creativity?
Long Arm: In 2006 the first time I heard music from UK label Ninja Tune! And I was really impressed!
LDBK: Who is your music icon?
Long Arm: Bonobo
LDBK: What is your personal soundtrack at the moment?
Long Arm: Daedelus - Stampede Me
LDBK: Is there any kind of philosophy behind your music?
Long Arm: I can speak about music philosophy only after finishing some album. Because when I make track I try not to think! It’s like experiment. I don’t want to know what I’ll get in the end. I just love the process of creating music! It’s the most important for me! And when I get a few conceptual tracks or album I can see a full picture! Bioniq often helps me to brainstorm… When we work on cover design, we spend a lot of time for discussing. It’s great! He really understands me!
LDBK: Tell us about your previous projects
Long Arm: I created my first album “The Branches” alone. It was a good experience, like a deep conversation with myself. It was an interesting period, because my son was born around that time, and it was the beginning of a new life. It inspired me very much. Eventually, I got album which I still love.
“Organic” is a collaboration album! We worked with many artists. I wanted to do it like a follow up to the first album but in the process we got a few great remixes and I also did a remix for Tinavie… and we have simply united everythnig! You can hear many vocal tracks on this EP: Teknical Development of Obba Supa (Chakra Sounds label) on “Ogranic”, Graciela Maria on “When We Fall”, Valentina Manysheva of Tinavie on “Letter From the Space”.
Some musicians also took part in “Organic”: Eugenia Peters added a perfect piano part on FiJi remix, Ritmo from Moscow is the co-producer of “When We Fall”, Krts and Daisuke Tanabe made amazing remixes. It’s too many people for one little EP, but it’s cool… People who never met collaborating on a common project!
LDBK: What about your upcoming projects:
Long Arm: I’m currently writing a new album. And I want to use more live instruments, invite many musicians to record. I’m also working with a great drummer from Saint-Petersburg at the moment. His name is Ruslan Gadzhimuradov. We play live together and write new songs. I think it will be an interesting collaboration. We’ll see!
I will keep on collaborating with German label “Project: Mooncircle“! It’s a really good label which releases interesting music. I’m just back from Germany. It was my first European tour. I played in three cities (Oberhausen, Berlin and Dresden). I like the German audience… sometimes not so emotional at concerts, but you can tell that they really feel the music. And I got warm reception! So thank you to all the people who supported me in Germany! And of course special thanks to the PMC team and Gordon!
My next concert will be in Vienna on the 11th of November at Cafe Leopold with Robot Koch, Gordon and Szenario. Make sure to drop by if you are in town.
