Home Taping report
Posted on March 9, 2009 by IncksSo, as I get re-settled back into New York City life, I’m also reflecting on my travels within Belgium and Holland. During my stay in Belgium, I had one of the best tour guides from on-point.be take me around the country during my promotional tour. Thanks Alex! I must say, that the city of Gent may be small but Hip-Hop culture is huge within this city! I made a stop at Mac Fly where they were hosting an Art exhibition and the launch of Laid Back Radio’s new media player. When I walked in, there were people of all colors and artistic backgrounds walking around this warm and friendly store. People from any walk of Art could come to this store and have an appreciation for any products being exhibited or sold here. I asked one of the clerks the prices of the pieces that were on display. Of course, I would’ve loved to support but times were kind of hard at the moment, lol.
There was this one piece that I would’ve loved to purchase. It was a painting of James Brown done beautifully on what looked like cloth. It was dope to see. Damn, wish I had some spare cash to buy it.
While I was looking around checkin’ the Art, the background music coming from Laid Back Radio’s media player couldn’t fit the mood any better. Nothing means more to an artist such as myself than to walk into a store and feel like no matter what I came here for, I just might leave with more than I intended. Their selection of vinyl was just right, and their table of CD’s varied in musical backgrounds and not just Hip-hop. I felt somewhat like I was at home inside of a store similar to Mac Fly’s in the East Village somewhere. For the folks living there, I’m not sure if they understand how important Mac Fly may be in bringing culture to this small town (with the exception of Music Mania). To me, it felt like walking into Fat Beats when they just began in the early nineties. Only thing is that Mac Fly is a more artistic version. I was glad to have been introduced to this store, and I would love to visit next time I’m in Gent. It gave me that NYC feeling with a Belgian twist. This was one of the notable moments during my tour and it gave me great inspiration to see the people who came out to support the exhibit. We all don’t know what the future holds but I have a great feeling that Mac Fly has the potential to FLY! Don’t look back ya’ll….
Home Taping exhibition at Mac Fly until Saturday the 14th of March.
