Laid Back Show - 10/06/2009
Posted on June 11, 2009 by Julius |Following the debate about the future of radio, one conclusion came to my mind: Radio is all about stories! And that’s why since day one, we are working with the one hour format. Because you need one hour to tell a good story.
So here is my musical story of the month gathering tracks I discovered recently:
This One - Western Sho Yun-Fat
Let’s start with Gilles aka This One. I really made it my mission to give a second life to his “Sour Soul” project and it’s was a lot of fun to visit some Brussels record shops and offer them records. They seemed quite surprised to say the least.
Lisa Preston aka LP - A little something (prod. by Jellphonic)
Lisa Preston aka LP - Know U (prod. by CyTru)
The Laid Back diva. First with one track out of her new 7inch and then with a brand new track she recorded with German producer Cytru. Let’s lobby for a Love Remedy release.
Sotu the Traveller - What’s going on feat. Aischa
Sotu was our guest on LDBK a few weeks ago for a tribute to his Turkish origins. Here he is again with a fresh track featuring singer Aischa.
Dalindeo - Vintage Voyage
Don’t know where I heard about Helsinki based sextet Dalindèo but after some vocal tracks I always like to play an instrumental and their cinematic jazz is brilliant.
The Last Poets - Dakari feat. Keith Murray (Nicolay rmx)
It’s always nice to hear a new track featuring the Last Poets and Keith Murray, even better when it comes for free with the whole story behind the project.
Chubb Rock & Wordsmith - Back In feat. Kimia Collins
And then comes one of my favorite emcee, Chubb Rock. He’s back and still got a great voice!
Illa J - Sounds like love feat. Debi Nova
To continue in the RnB vibe, Dilla production: classy! Video.
Zap Mama - African Diamond feat. Tony Allen & Meshell Ndegeocello
I’m not too sure about Zap Mama’s new “ReCreation” album as a whole but this collaboration with Tony Allen & Meshell Ndegeocello caught my attention.
Melissa Czarnik - The Happy Song
Eric Mire Band - I got this
The next two tracks are very special. First of all thanks to Jee-Nice from Anatitude magazine for introducing me to Melissa and Eric. I had the chance to have a drink with those two artists from Milwaukee during their European tour and they are as nice as their music is fresh. So good that mister T. (who’s doing the programming for the LDBK players) took Melissa’s CD back home and i’m not sure he’ll give it back to me…
Hawthorne Headhunters - Never give up feat. Coultrain
I discovered Hawthorne Headhunters on MOOVMNT (check their show on LDBK!)
Interesting use of the Sergio Mendes sample.
K’Bonus feat. Low Budget, U-Gene & Monique Harcum - Never Say Never (Grazz’s funk mix)
The K’bonus track is a good opportunity to invite you to check Mo&Grazz’s video presentation for their forthcoming “Gemini” album.
LeFtO - Hooligan support
Nice to hear that the busiest man in Belgian show business is back on the production with two edits released on Melting Pot Music.
Philadelphia Slick - Gonna get over
Some excellent hip hop oriented pop music with a soul and we gladly offer you this track. Get the album, it’s brilliant.
Grand Analog - I play my kazoo
Another crossover hip hop track from Winnipeg based Grand Analog. Their album “Metropolis is Burning” is now available.
Shout out to Nevine, Koen and Midleft and a special welcome back to LuiGi.
