About 4 months ago we got the idea to release a LDBK compilation album. After a lot of preparation work we launched the crowd funding campaign on IndieGoGo earlier this month.

Now we’re finally ready to announce what probably is one of the most important parts of this project: the line up.

The original idea behind the compilation is to promote artists from the LDBK community. We’re especially pleased to have a few typical Laid Back collaborations on the album; artists from around the world working together on a track for this occasion. Keeping the LDBK spirit alive!

So here it is, the full artist line up for the LDBK Compilation:

MonkeyRobot (BE)
MonkeyRobot is a duo made of Brussels based beatmakers Eric P. and LuiGi (formerly known as Infinitskills). They recently released a project called 74 Miles Away, in collaboration with Pierre Anckaert, curated by Laid Back.

ClassicBeatz (US) & Lisa Preston (NZ)
Jason “ClassicBeatz” Minnis is a producer, pianist, songwriter from Brooklyn, New York. He is the leading member of the instrumental duo Nicholas Kopernicus and recently released one song a week from his new album Ntale’s Groove on ldbk.eu. For this compilation, he will work with our favorite singer from New Zealand also know as the voice behind the LDBK radio jingles, Miss Lisa preston.

Melissa Czarnik (US)
Melissa Czarnik is a soulful, fluid rapper, backed by the five-piece Eric Mire Band. Together, they’ve produced a surprising, potent and thoughtful mix of funk, jazz, soul and hip-hop.

Bongholio Iglesias (DE)
Calls himself “The hardest grooving gorilla in showbusiness.” All we know is that he makes the groovy kind of music we like!

72 Soul (BE) & Flow State (UK)
72 Soul (Lazy Rebel) Singer, MC, deejay, poet, radio presenter, producer, writer, graphic and sound designer, is a musical chameleon who collaborates with artists worldwide, rapping about life and love. Flow State is the new moniker for Bryn Griffiths (Trust In Dust). The idea of Flow State is that the music is made quickly, when in the flow, and released without months of polishing & perfecting, to keep the music flowing.

JoBee (BE - PL) & Dr. Kwest (BE - RDC)
JoBee is a singer (jazz, soul, hip hop) buzzing as presenter for two FM Brussel radio shows Implosief and SupAfly. JoBee is part of the SupAfly, the collective consisting of seven hip hop minded female artists. On this Laid Back compilation she will collaborate with Brussels based producer Dr. Kwest. Influenced by Sun Ra, Stereolab and many others, Kwest is also DJ’s, hosts a radio show on Radio Panik in Brussels and is a frequent LDBK collaborator.

Strand (BE - ES)
Strand is Miguel Gil Tertre, a Spanish musician and visual artist who has released recordings on labels such as City Centre Offices, or Project Mooncircle. Last year he released DUB! 7″ on Laid back.

40 Winks (BE)
40 Winks is an instrumental hip hop group made of two producers -Padmo’ and Weedy - from Antwerp, Belgium. They were the first guests ever invited in the Laid Back FM show (back in 2003?)

Amede Soundsmith (UK)
Amede is a 20 year old singer/composer hailing from East London. Predominantly a ‘soul’ singer, being exposed to the synths of Cologne, beats from Detroit and the crates of Camden and making down-tempo-hip hop-electro-glitch-trippy-soul.

K’bonus (BE)
K’bonus is the project of dj- drummer- producer-funkateer Bruno Truyens who is also one half of Booghaloo Zoo.

The Compositive Two (BE)
This Belgian Hip Hop duo has been around in the hip hop scene for quite a while now, and recently released a digital remix EP of their 1st album with the support of LDBK.

Lefto (BE)
One of Belgian’s finest exports - after beer and chocolate, Lefto has been rocking the one’s and two’s for more than a decade in Brussels and beyond.

Turtle (BE)
Hip-Hop activist & Zulu Nation member, breakdancer, producer and DJ from Namur. He dropped by the studio one day and made us listen to a fantastic beat that we absolutely want on the compilation.

Incks (US)
Writer, Lyricist, Producer and Founder of Real Phresh Music, native of Brooklyn and a descendant of Barbados, Incksalonius has been on the scene for years.

Cris Prolific (BE - FR)
Cris Prolific is a French hip hop producer. After collaborating with the best french mcs (Lunatic, Rocca, Oxmo Puccino, …), Cris gathered an international rooster for his first solo album “Art/Money” that was released earlier on this year.

The finalized tracks are slowly coming in and I can tell you there will be some sweet tunes on this album!

We’ve had quite a few requests for children’s T-Shirts. Since we’ve never made any and we really like the idea of having kids rocking the LDBK tees, we’re pleased to announced they will be available! You can order them on our IndieGoGo page. Once the campaign is over, we’ll contact you to ask for the size/genre.

We’re currently at 10% of the $7500, which is not bad at all knowing we’re only revealing the line up now. In name of the whole LDBK team I’d like to thank the 369 people who tweeted or shared the word and the 16 funders so far! Much appreciated!
