Testing the Nikon D90
Posted on October 5, 2008 by LuiGi | Share |Last week, I had the opportunity to test the new Nikon D90, focusing on its new featured film mode. Here are some rough footages (no effects added in post production). Our goal was to show that this camera with the help of a nice selection of optics (14, 17-200, 85 & 400 mm) is able to shoot some quality material. All clips are in 1280-800 resolution, so just beneath the full HD norm (Nikon’s #1 competitor, Canon, is already able to shoot in HD).
Thanks to Den, Eric P, Lefto & Thibault.

That. Is. Amazing.
Makes my D60
look like a disposable,
What program was used
for editing?
wow, looks real nice, i just wish that i´d have the money to go get it :)…
@ Frank
I used Final Cut Pro for the editing. It’s all about the images, not about the software I used
cheers

nice mood & shots! but take care while makin fast left right pans, it makes a really dirty “wobble” effect that truly sucks.
HD version is coming
Did you capture the video footage directly to FCP? If not , with what program did you get those great images?
Yes , I captured the images straight to Final Cut Pro.
Im not having any luck directly importing footage into fcp. I can’t get the log and capture to find any device. I tried using prores hd 24p default settings.
damn i keep going back to this video too much, next time i need a camera i have to get that one ! is that Eric P in the vid as the carpenter :O
No that’s my bro,i ain’t no lumberjack. :- )
I tried a couple of time,..but after 5min my arms start feeling numb.
@ sean
You just get the clips from your sd card, and import them in final cut! I didn’t use the log & capture option in FC.
nice clip!
wich version of final cut do you use and wich codec?
codec is h264.

haha sorry man, the dude flashed so fast and the first thing that came to my mind then was that i had seen a picture of you and i thought it might of been you haha sorry
I’m curious about some of the set up you used -
what lens and lens setting/camera settings on the D90
did you use?
in FCP - you just used File -> Import
moved to timeline - rendered it -
then how did you export it -
Quicktime movie or other export type?
thanks
@ quentin
Optics I used are described in the text below the video. Settings on the camera are all set manually, make sure that the auto lightning is set off, other wise you’ll get that pumping diafragma effect when you’re moving the camera.
In FCP, just file-import, editing, rendering and playout as a quicktime. Make sure you’re compression is set to H264, when rendering you’re project.
