3 days of urban art exploration in Paris
Posted on August 11, 2009 by Kriebel |Street Art hunting might be the best way to discover a city. At every corner, there’s a chance you will discover something beautiful that isn’t mentioned in your tourist guide. Don’t consider what follows as an exhaustive description of the Parisian street art scene. But more like a few tips and references to start your adventure.
Stencils
A lot of stencils can be seen in the rue Mouffetard and butte aux Cailles areas mainly by Nemo, Mosko & Associés, Miss Tic, Jef Aerosol, Artiste Ouvrier and Jana & JS. Speedy Graphito, Jérôme Mesnager and FKDL are also frequent decorators of those areas.
Although he is more active in Vitry, you might also find a few C215’s pieces in Paris intra muros.
Paste ups
In the “paste up” category, we have among many others: Nature’s Revenge, Paul Bloas, Tian and those incredible swimmers or “hommes à la bouée“.
Bonom
Bonom who has a lot of artworks in the streets of Brussels can also be found in Paris where his style is slightly different (mainly due to the architecture of the city).
Zoo Projects
Zoo Project’s huge black and white half animal/half human paintings must have a lot of stories to tell. Always nice to spot them.
Permanent spots
The whole Belleville area is worth to explore with a special focus on rue Ramponneau, rue Denoyez and rue de l’Ermitage.
Les Frigos near the Bibliothèque Mitterand.
Just outside the Périphérique, you’ll find Bagnolet where the Kosmopolite festival is held every year and a lot of pieces can be seen. The two pictures above includes Farm Prod (FR/BE) and Os Gemeos (BR).
+ two abandoned buildings… Molitor swimming pool near Roland Garros and Entrepots Pantin
And don’t forget the Invader mosaics, they’re just everywhere.
Current exhibitions
“Né dans la rue” graffiti exhibition at Fondation Cartier.
“L’Art Urbain” feat. Nemo, Mosko & Associés and Jérôme Mesnager at Pavillon Carré du Baudouin. Be sure to also check this map helping to discover those artists in the streets of the 20th arrondissement.
“GM crew” at Galerie Issue
So don’t hesitate to go for a walk, open your eyes and learn that really specific way of looking at the city. It’s all about following your instinct. At every corner you’ll have to take a decision that could lead you to a treasure. And if you’re lost, L’Altas might help you find your way.
