Ursula Rucker at Paroles Urbaines
Posted on October 3, 2011 by Julius | Share |On Sunday the 16th of October, Ursula Rucker will be in Brussels to perform at the “Paroles Urbaines” awards (an event presenting the best French speaking spoken word and slam artists in Belgium).
Born and raised in Philadelphia, poet and performance artist Ursula Rucker started sharing her art at open mic nights in 1994 before collaborating with producer King Britt on “Supernatural” and becoming the Roots’ favorite when it comes to closing album with “The Unlocking” on “Do You Want More?!!?!!” (1994), “The Adventures in Wonderland” on “Iladelph Halflife” (1996) and “Return to Lost Innocence” on “Things Fall Apart” (1999).
After many other collaborations, Rucker released her first album “Supa Sista” in 2001, followed by “Silver or Lead” (2003), “Ma’ at Mama” (2006), “Ruckus Soundsysdom” (2008) and “She Said” (2011). Among other projects, she worked on a book with Pullitzer-prize winning photographer Clarence Williams and was named a Creative Ambassador by the City of Philadelphia in 2010.
