Wallifornia Soul documentary

After meeting record collector Jean Roger aka JR on a flea market, Eric invited him in the FM Brussel studio for a Laid Back session (October 2008) … Blown away by his stories and musical knowledge, we decided to meet him again to discuss about music, records, travels and life in general. More than a crate digger, JR is a man who follows his heart in order to achieve his dreams.

Working on our first 15 minutes documentary was a hell of a DIY learning experience but we made it.

Thank you to Jérôme ‘Djé” Escobar for the introduction animation, Matthieu “Maty” Cadet for the colour grading, Louis “LuiGi” Van De Leest for filming and Eric Paquet for not only editing it but for taking care of this project from day one. A special big up to Noah Greenwood for hooking us up with Aki from Cosmos Records in Toronto.

Let’s hope this is only the first in a long series.

    Bonjour et un immense merci pour l’historique de notre mouvement musical mon frère aîné à connu très tôt le Groove personnellement j’ai fais ça connaissance en 67 et je n’ai cessé de défendre cette boîte mythique ântre de la Soul et de la funky aujourd’hui tout les soit -disant amoureux de la Soul se gargarise du Popcorn et ne jure que par l’Oldies en confondant un genre musical avec son époque et trouvant un intérêt pour une musique commerciale de bas étage tout juste bonne pour faire revivre des émotions aux nostalgiques du twist et autres yéyéseries c’est pathétique !!!…..alors nous avons besoin d’ambassadeur comme vous pour remettre les pendules à l’heure et montrer ce qu’était vraiment la musique que l’on écoutait et sur laquelle nos danseurs évoluaient avec bonheur pour le plaisir des yeux et de nos oreilles

    Je suis très heureux de lire ce genre de jolies reflexions , car il est vrais que grand nombres de gens confondent la vielle “oldies. ” pour la vielle bonne soul “groove ” .
    D’ailleurs moi aussi j’ai connu cette sacrée bonne boite de Ostende .
