Laid Back meets Lefesonor

Posted on March 22, 2009 by Julius

This Saturday, I was invited by Zilé and Vanacc to play a set in their radio show (lefesonor) on Radio Campus and decided to play tracks produced by Laid Back collaborators plus my current favorites from like-minded labels.

40 Winks - 40 Winks at the lunar bar

Weedy and Padmo aka 40 Winks are two producers from Antwerp (BE). This “Lunar Bar” track has been released early March on the “Silent in Truth” compilation gathering artists from the Project:Mooncircle label (PMC - Berlin, DE).

M.anifest - The Birds and the beats

Weedy (40 Winks) with another international collaboration, this time with Minnesota (US) based mc M.anifest. This track might be released soon but in the mean time, you can hear it on M.anifest’s myspace.

John Robinson & Lewis Parker - A place called home

A couple of month ago, PMC released a collaboration between John Robinson and MF Doom and it’s seems they have more projects involving the ex-Science of Life member in the pipe line. For example, this collaboration with Lewis Parker and beatmaker Mr Cooper to be released early April.

Shad - I Don’t Like To

Shad aka the Old Prince (Toronto), is a mcee bringing us back to Hip Hop’s golden era - the early 90’s - when rappers were not afraid to be funny, down to earth or socially conscious. A breath of fresh Hip Hop air coming from Canada.

Suff Daddy - The only way i know feat. Oddisee and Kev Brown

German producer Suff Daddy together with your best bet when it comes to east coast underground mcees, the Oddissee and Kev Brown duo. “The only way i know” has been released on Metling Pot Music (MPM), german label founded by an ex-member of the Groove Attack/Superrappin team.

Amede & The Soundsmith - The Underground

Upcoming producer and soul singer from London (UK), Amede is also an active Laid Back collaborator.

Unity Gain Theory - Go there feat. Steve Spacek

Tracks brought by Amede us during his latest visit in Brussels and soon to be released on Dusty Records.

Infinitskills - What went wrong and who’s to blame? (prod. by Eric P)

Infinitskills is Laid Back’s in-house production team. They released the NINE compilation in 2007, played at the Dour festival during the summer and a new project is currently in the making.

LP & K15 - A new path

LP aka Lisa Preston is Laid Back’s correspondent in New Zealand. This track can be found on an EP she released with UK producer K15 a couple of months ago.

LP & Weedy (40 Winks) - Love remedy

A prefect example that Laid Back is a platform who artists can meet and collaborate. Wellington (NZ) and Antwerp (BE) have never been so close thanks to internet connections.

Lucinda Slim & The Lone Stars - All this time

After working with Zap Mama, Lucinda Slim presents her new solo project on German label Melting Pot Music in collaboration with Belgian producer Krewcial.

Amber Ojeda - Don’t rush

Amber Ojeda is a singer and songwriter out of the San Diego/Los Angeles area combining soulful R&B, Hip-Hop and Jazz.

Incks - Teach the kids how to rhyme

Brooklyn based lyricist Incks discovered Laid Back during her latest trip to Europe and then decided to become our NYC correspondent.

The Louie Gee Ensemble - Scrabble

A cross generation tribute to the late J Dilla and Belgian jazz musician Rene Costy featuring Louis Van De Leest Jr. & Sr. + Pierre Anckaert & Hendrick Vanattenhoven.

K’bonus - Nothing is for free feat. U-gene (LuiGi’s Infinitskills rmx)

Get the remix before the original version is even available! K’Bonus (Antwerp - BE), U-Gene (Netherlands) on another Infinitskills rmx.

Infinitskills - Stoned Groove (prod. by Pat & rHil)

rHil’s first steps into the world of beats.

Diana Ross - One Love (Onda Sonora edit)

Onda Sonora are responsible for everything uptempo on the LDBK online radio and provides us with great edits like this one.

JSBL - Fooled by Needs

Jacob’s Salty & Bamboozling Ladder aka JSBL is a new millennium jazz quartet from Vienna (Austria) with a sound inspired by late 60s Jazz, early 70s Funk, Broken Beat, Disco… JSBL’s debut EP “Twice upon two times” is out on Affine records.

Joe Acheson Quartet - The Burning circle

A jazz quarter straight form Edinburgh playing the best electronica. Be sure to check them live if you ever go to Scotland.

Stencil by The Dude Company in Lille (FR) - Thanks to Elise & Julien
