Guest of the Week - Nalden
Posted on April 14, 2009 by JuliusSince he launched his blog, Nalden worked for several companies in the music- and advertising industry. Today he is co-owner of Appletree Records and share his thoughts via lectures, consulting and of course the revolutionary Nalden.net - a unique weblog transformed into a Rich Media Application in 2008. More than words, you need to experience it… so why don’t you start your visit in the audio section.
Here is Nalden’s commented selection for LDBK:
Hayzee - Press Start
“I won’t say I’m responsible for bringing his sound to the masses but I know for sure I’ve definitely a big share innit! It all started after hearing some of Hayzee’s beats when I stood in the studio of FS Green. I got so excited that I decided to call Hayzee immediately and talked about an internet release via Nalden.net. This ended up in the Next Level EP which turned out to be a huge success. I can put on this track when ever where ever and I will never get bored. What more can I say? I’m a groupie of Hayzee! hahaha. Press Start y’all….”
fLako - Desert Ride
“I came across this German producers after he emailed me about his latest beat tape; first space shit on the moon. I got excited about a few beats and decided to host the tape on my site. It got good responses but I expected nothing else from this beatnicks member. I think Desert Ride is my favorite joint of all…”
Powell - Deck Floor
“Another beatnicks member haha. What can I say?! I’m hooked on this beat shit. Powell is a French producer based in Paris creating this crazy boom beep blip shit. Head nodding in full effect. Would love to see all of these cats together performing live!”
SirOJ - Beat 14
“SirOJ is my man, representing Amsterdam. I resemble an MC like Phat Kat or something killing this beat! Can’t remember. I do know this beat was on a beat tape he made for State Magazine. This guy is saving his bangers so Busta, Kanye, 50 better wake up and get in line to rip off some of his beats…”
Mono/Poly - A Message From Inside
“Mon ami dj Lefto pointed me out to Mono/Poly, a gifted producer from the States. I love the vibe of this joint. Making me feel good at times I need to catch some sleep…”
J Todd - Tempo-XY
“J Todd is another producers I’m a big fan of. This crazy tempo track is part of his debut album Ryzzynynce. The guys of Lazersword send me this album to check out and I totally loved it. His sound is unique, experimental and different. Me likey is the word to put out in LA. So it seems. Well… enjoy this one!”
Floating Points - Love Me Like This (Floating Points Remix)
“My fam in London kept me in the loop about the Floating Points. (Thanks Karim!) Man, how much I do love this track. This is highway material, fifth gear, open roof, cruising through the city, the sun in shining, nothing to worry about. Love me like this!”
Pacific - Runway To Elsewhere (Breakbots remix)
“To be honest, I rediscovered this track just recently. I stumbled upon it while I was listening to P. Faberge aka Faberyayo’s current favorite tracks for Nalden.net haha. Seems the guy is ahead of his time once again. An instant classic if you ask me. Disco is back. Can’t front on it. I’m getting melodramatic of this track. Passion!”
The Please - PadaBeams
“Two cats from Amsterdam aka The Please started out as dj’s and did some producing for fun. And I like people having fun! I don’t know what I specifically like about this track but I just gets to me. The bass? The Asian influences? Downtempo is the new up tempo? Whatever…”
Aardvarck - Smurf
“Aardvarck is our local hero back in Amsterdam. This guy should get a medal for being a true pioneer for years. The must be a movie or documentary about his life and I would be happy to finance that shit. Besides being an unique character he’s also a very talented producer. Crazy sounds, weird tempo’s, real music!”
LeLe - Kickstart Le Brommer
“P. Faberge, Piet Parra & Rimer London formed the super group LeLe, when isn’t important, just the fact that this happened is enough. Get blown away by loops. No yayo on the mic with this track but Parra & London in a combo. Niet dollen maar pompen!”
DOOM - Rap Ambush
“I really don’t care DOOM lost his MF if he keeps dropping joints like this. Classic beat and his rare voice with unique flow keeps delivering me goose bums. He’s born like this!”
Stagga - Timewarp Dub
“This dubstep thing is going berserk. It’s everywhere, and people are going strong on it. If only I could get forward in time and see how it’s evolution. Well, I didn’t managed to built a time machine but this track gets me surprisingly close hahaha. Be warned!”
Sterile Action Figures - Hymn
“I don’t even know if I’m allowed to leak this shit haha. Sterile Action Figures is Amsterdam based graphic designer Deluge, crafting beats in his spare time. Sometimes he sends me his latest works and I was feeling this one fo’sho!”
Arts the Beat Doctor - Meditate
“Whenever I feel sick, this tune gets me back to steppin’. It’s intense. Keep listening this track over and over again. Arts the Beat Doctor is a true musician! Period.”
Sebastien Tellier - Manty
“I can’t ignore any song starting with the HaHaHa right!?”
Made in Japan - City at Night
“Belgium’s finest! This bonus track of the Babyspace EP is one of the best tracks I’ve heard in 2008. I keep recalling this vision of cruising back from Brussels to Amsterdam some random night. A true underground classic.”
Rox - Page Unfolds
“Too bad Mark Ronson was a tiny bit ahead of me signing this truly talented singer from London. I saw her performing live at a party of advertising agency 180 in Amsterdam and I was blown away. I feel the emotion when listening to her!”
Adele - Hometown Glory
“Ok, when talking emotion you can’t ignore Adele, the only singer who can create tears in my eyes. This is true emotion transferred by sound. Even the toughest thugs will get down on their knees, thinking twice about their lives. Man, this is scary shit. That voice, the piano, the lyrics. Tripled goose bums, watered eyes… can’t… help.. it.”
FS Green - Goodbye
“Why not having my friend, neighbor and producer extraordinaire FS Green saying goodbye?”
