A new player for LDBK radio
Posted on Jan 6, 2009 by Julius |We’ve created our online radio in March 2008 and since then did a lot of tests, trials and… errors. Although there is still a lot of work to do on that project, i’m happy with what has been done so far: some 4000 tracks in the rotation, one guest every week and 10 thematic shows.
I strongly believe that in a few of years it will as easy to listen to an online radio than it is now to listen to FM radios. So let’s hope we will make the best use out of these few years to be ready with a next level Laid Back radio when it will become a reality.
But enough crystall ball predictions … I’ve been mentioning this new player quite often lately so now it’s time to unveil the secret.
As for the moment we don’t have any host announcing the tracks being played, we thought it would be great to provide you with another way to get some additional information. In this new player, biographies (from last.fm), pictures (from flickr) and related links (from google) will be automatically displayed based on the artist currently airing. You will also be able to see what are the current and next shows and will have access to the latest articles posted on the Laid Back website.
After some researches I made last year (see for instance the conference about the future of radios organized with Cleverwood), I came to the conclusion that we had to make it easier for you to launch LDBK radio (and the same apply for every online radio). So instead of having to go to the Laid Back website and launch the player (2 clicks), you’ll be able to reach your favorite radio within one click as this player will be a desktop application.
A first version will be released around mid-February, but if you want to be among the first ones to use this new player, send us an email at show{at}laid-back.be as we are looking for testers to help us with the final debugging.
If you are running an online radio and want to use this player, it will be fully adaptable so don’t hesitate to contact us.
Thanks to Anthony Janssens (Datasmart), Geoffroy Delobel and Ali Nassiri (Central Design) for their collaboration.

The future is now,the future is laid-back.
One again, good job, can’t wait to test it.
I want to test it baby !
As Aretha Franklin , i’ll say
RESPECT !
This looks amazing J, can’t wait to test it. I really like the idea of a non-browser use of the internet, but more looking at it like an application that uses the internet to the maximum. And since that non-browser use of the internet will probably be the future of the internet , it’s great to see that laid-back is doing exactly that same thing and maybe even being one step ahead.
Keep on!
LDBK won’t know the crisis in 2k9…no way!!!
I love the ambition guys. Keep reinventing the web! Keep looking for new ways to use the web. I’m a fan!

To those who sent me email during the last two days regarding the beta-test, please send them again. Our hosting company had a major crash on their mail server… things happen.
