Meet the Uphigh collective
Posted on April 30, 2010 by Jan Schraeyen |On Saturday April 17th, the second installment of the RELEASE event took place. Arriving a bit after 9pm, everything looked pretty calm. Cosy but calm. But around 22:30, the venue was rapidly welcoming more people and the vibe got just right for 72 Soul and his Lazy Rebels. With JtotheC as a host, there was little choice for the audience not to be enthusiast. As 72 Soul told us in the studio , he performed his productions with a full live band and he sure did pick some good musicians. Lots of smiling faces and hip wiggling going on during his set.
After a stage change over, Title, mc SIR-5 and singer Delvis - all part of the UpHigh Collective - were up to please the crowd. Since their 7″ was being released that night through On-Point Records and Title had his birthday the day before, the guys were eager to throw a party. And they did.
A mixture of electronic soul, digi funk, blip hop and wonky basses was fired at the masses and after a couple of tracks, they gladly surrendered. Delvis smoothed up the blazing beats with his trademark honey dipped vocal sounds, while Sir 5 hyped up the crowd by letting himself go loose to the grooves and deploying some furious rhymes. The combination of quality crafted music, sheer talent and an overwhelming genuine enthusiasm got hold of all attendees, climaxing in a newly edited version of Title’s ‘Caravan’. We can honestly say they blew up the spot.
