End 2004, I had a life-changing experience when attending a concert at the Brussels opera house “La Monnaie / De Munt”. The audience that night was a mix between Hip Hop heads shouting and screaming and the opera season ticket holders clapping hands respectfully at the end of each piece. Brilliant!

The event that gathered such a diverse crowd was the Grazzhoppa Bigband’s show. And they demonstrated that there was more to do with a turntable than just of few cuts at the end of a hip hop track. So necessary!

The show has been subsequently broadcasted on FM Brussel and I thought sharing it with you would be a good introduction to the Bigband sound …

Four years later, the Grazzhoppa DJ Bigband is back in Brussels with a new show… “Around The World In 80 Beats” will be presented on Wednesday the 19th of November at KVS (Brussels). Don’t miss this unique chance to witness an orchestra made of 11 turntablists, a singer and a three pieces horn section.

Line up: J to the C, Mixmonster Menno, Boula One, Iron, Yzerbeat, Grazzhoppa, Optimus, Smimooz, Courtasock, Vindictiv, XXL, Monique Harcum (singer), Erwin Vann (sax and flute), Frederik Heirman (trombone) and Laurent Blondiau (trompet and horns).
